The Margrethe mixing bowl by Rosti is a design classic designed by the Danish designer duo Sigvard Bernadotte and Acton Bjørn.
The year 1947 is mentioned as the date of the first initiatives to develop a functional mixing bowl. Stability, stackability, secure holding, easy emptying and cleaning were the main features that this mixing bowl was to offer. In 1949 the designer duo Acton Bjørn and Sigvard Bernadotte were commissioned to create the design. The first production of mixing bowls started in 1950. Since Sigvard Bernadotte was the uncle of Princess Margrethe (later Queen of Denmark), he suggested that the bowls be named after his niece. However, the Danish royal house did not agree until 1954, after which mass production of the bowl in three different sizes began. In 1966, twelve years later, the mixing bowls were improved with a rubber ring on the base and the range was extended by two more sizes. Today the popular and stable mixing bowl is available in many different colours and sizes.
